We are Maine lawyers dedicated to protecting due process and the right to independent counsel for all, and the rule of law, not rule by the powerful.

Maine Lawyers for the Rule of Law is a non-profit organization founded to stand up to the current, unprecedented attacks on the Rule of Law. In connection with Law Day (May 1) 2025, we led the successful effort to have all major law firms in our State sign a Declaration in support of the Rule of Law. That Declaration, which reaffirmed their commitment to the Constitution and denounced the current Administration’s attacks on judges and lawyers for performing their constitutional duties, was signed by over 700 Maine lawyers and 100 Maine Law Firms. This outpouring of support for the Rule of Law made Maine’s law firms and lawyers national leaders in the fight to defend our constitutional republic. We also cosponsored the Law Day Rally, which had over 500 attendees and at which former Chief Justice Wathen administered the re-affirmation of the lawyer’s oath to support the US and Maine Constitutions.
